The Arts Centre Forecourt, 100 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne Andy BaylorTuesday 25 November at 9:30pm Tickets $30 Melbourne’s own roots music master, Andy Baylor, has a new CD –Blues is Poetry- which he is launching at the the world -famous Spiegeltent at 9.00 pm ,Tues 25th November. “Blues is Poetry” is Andy Baylor’s eighth independent CD release and is a collection of original, stripped-back blues songs that are real, lyrical and irresistibly cool. Citing influences such as John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed and J.B Lenoir, and others, Andy has taken the feeling and form of the blues and placed it firmly in his own backyard. There are ballads, groovy guitar jump, existential Hooker-esque pieces, hypnotic high-life instrumentals, love songs and more… The Blues is poetry band includes:-Rockin’ Rick Dempster (Dancehall Racketeers), harmonica, steel guitar; Peter ‘ blues-boy’ Beulke, double bass; Denis Close, drums and percussion, with special guests. For some, “the blues” is the music of a by-gone era- a relic, a collectible piece of musical bric-a-brac in a world that is now just a theme park. For others, it is loud, raunchy party music, the clichéd soundtrack to a wild, reckless weekend. For Andy Baylor, blues is perhaps the greatest musical invention of the modern era, it is the tie that binds, no-one can ever own it… out of Africa, tempered in the New World… blue, indigo, elegant… deep, infinite, simple and free, a soulful testimony… blues is life, blues is poetry. www.andybaylor.com.au
