the Arts Centre and Spiegeltent International present
The Arts Centre Forecourt, 100 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne Labjacd, Brotha Black & DJ Kano (Aus)Sat 22 Nov at 11.30pm Tickets $10 (At the door) Labjacd perform an exhilarating mix of old school hip-hop, salsa, jazz and Andean folk music. Singing and MCing in both English and Spanish, the group’s three vocalists all share a Chilean heritage, and like the band’s other members, have all previously performed in a number of well-known Latin big bands and a variety of funk/jazz configurations. Brotha Black continues to develop his own musical/artistic output whilst actively promoting and encouraging younger and emerging Indigenous hip-hop artists. In 2004 Brotha Black joined forces with UK production unit The Turbomen to produce his debut cutting edge Aussie hip-hop album More Than A Feeling. DJ Kano is regarded as one of Australia’s most respected, talented and experienced DJs, Kano has an impressive club history filled with long standing residencies that dates back to the late 80s. His legendary night Cocoa Butter was groundbreaking in bringing hard soul, jazz, funk, latin and related grooves to inspired audiences for eight years. Kano’s sets have been heard alongside Jazzanova, United Future Organisation, Nitin Sawhney, Louie Vega, Kid Koala, Black Eyed Peas, Gotan Project, Bebel Gilberto, to name just a few.
The Spiegeltent Melbourne concert program will be available October 2008.
